A small furor erupted amongst tech crazy Canucks fans this morning when it was revealed the CBC would not be broadcasting the games in St. Louis in high definition. The reasoning was mostly logistics, and with the crown corporation only having two HD trucks, one back east and one in Vancouver, travel time did not work out for getting a truck to St. Louis.
Rather than rent a truck, CBC decided to save the money and broadcast the St. Louis games in standard definition. They no doubt received a lot of complaints about that decision.
Late this afternoon it was announced that Save On Foods and the Overwaitea Foods Group were stepping up to sponsor these away games so that the games could be broadcast in HD.
“We would like to thank Save-On-Foods for their support,” said Scott Moore, executive director of CBC Sports. “We are now able to better service the passionate fans in Vancouver and across the country.”
The skeptic in me has to wonder if this even would have been an issue if this series involved the CBC’s beloved Maple Leafs.
Regardless, HDTV snobs like myself thank Jimmy Pattison!
