Canuck fans may have a reason to be thankful
After the first two games of the Vancouver Canucks 2008-09 season, one thing seems to be becoming pretty clear. This team is going to be a very hard working team, and that is the first quality many fans were looking for in their retooled hockey club.
A season opening 6-1 victory and a come from behind 5-4 OT win on the road, have shown a solid work ethic, in addition to improved speed and toughness. 11 goals in two games have eased the concerns about a lack of scoring. New blood and young talent are eager to prove they belong can be a great tonic for what has ailed our beloved team.
It’s only two games, but if these traits continue to define this team, Canucks fan could have plenty to be thankful for this season.
Mike Gillis made promises of this type of change when he took over. Although he probably would have liked to add another scoring forward to the mix to start the season, his club’s start has made that a less pressing need, while leaving him with enough salary to play with should it become an issue he needs to address down the road.
Gillis has also instituted a feeling around the team that this club his committed to winning. He’s hired chefs to cook meals for players that feel the club feels needs help with nutrition, so they can concentrate on playing.
In the midst of an extended road trip, the journey will provide the Canucks with a chance to bond as a team. Success on this trip could really make this team a force to be reckoned with in the tough Northwest division.
Classy tribute to Bourdon touches all
For those who were not able to see the classy tribute the Canucks paid to Luc Bourdon, or if you would like to see it again, the video the club produced is available at Canucks TV. The tribute was wonderfully done and Tom Cochrane provided a great acoustic version of his song “Big Leagues” that really fit. Kudos to the Canucks for a great tribute, and of course all the best to Bourdon family…he wil be forever a Canuck.
